2016 WaterFire Salute to Veterans Resource Fair

The 2016 WaterFire Salute to Veterans Resource Fair will open at 3:00 p.m.
Located at the center of the WaterFire installation on Washington Street and the Washington Street Bridge transforming it into an informational and educational center about issues Veterans can face after serving in the military. The 2016 WaterFire Salute to Veterans Resource is sponsored by Presented Sponsor: The Providence VA Medical Center along with Contributing Sponsors: Verizon and Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick LTD.

WaterFire hopes to educate the public that there are many issues for returning Vets and that they need to be part of ensuring that they have the services and support they need when they return to civilian life. The WaterFire Salute to Veterans showcases the many organizations currently offering services to deployed returning and retired Vets. By putting many of these resources all in one place so that every Vet visiting us on November 7th is able to explore all resources that they need to make their transition into and their lives after military life as easy as possible.

Washington Street Bridge

Welcome Home Tent for our OEF, OIF, and OND Veterans : WaterFire Providence would like to shine a spotlight on and extend an extra special welcome to our post-9/11 Veterans. Stationed on the Washington Street Bridge will be the OEF, OIF, and OND Veterans Welcome Home tent. A warm and inviting tent dedicated to the men and women who served in these conflicts, all post-9/11 Veterans are welcome to join us in this area in celebration of your service. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) will be hosting in the Welcome Home Tent.

Improving the Lives of Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans and Their Families

Founded in 2004 by an Iraq veteran, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) is the first and largest organization for new veterans and their families, with nearly 300,000 members and supporters nationwide. IAVA is a 21st century veterans organization dedicated to standing with the 2.6 million veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan from their first day home through the rest of their lives.

IAVA strives to build an empowered generation of veterans who provide sustainable leadership for America. The organization works toward this vision through programs that support new veterans in the key areas of: health, education, employment and building a lasting community for vets and their families. IAVA creates impact through assistance to veterans and their families, raising awareness about veterans’ issues, and advocacy for supportive policy at all levels of government.

Complimentary coffee in the Welcome Home Tent will be provided by Veteran Coffee Roasters. The public is also welcome and we are encouraging people to bring down pictures of family members or themselves to hang in the tent as well as submit them prior to WaterFire through email to be hung in the reception area.
